Northboro, MA and Geneva, Switzerland – January 14, 2003 -- The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is an international, inter-governmental organization dedicated to promoting the use and protection of works of the human spirit. Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, WIPO is one of the 16 specialized agencies of the United Nations system of organizations. It administers 23 international treaties dealing with different aspects of intellectual property protection.
One of WIPO's objectives is to promote broad-based awareness and understanding of the role and management of intellectual property. One way of achieving this is by delivering training to people in organizations around the world, using e-learning.
To this end, an e-learning course entitled An Introduction to Intellectual Property was developed, using the Intralearn Platform. This course covers areas such as copyright, related rights, trademarks, patents and industrial design. The course, which eliminated distance as an obstacle to learning, was an immediate and huge success. Some 1,000 students from around the world enroll each year.
WIPO chose IntraLearn XE, a top of the range LMS from Traineasy, a leading Authorized IntraLearn Reseller (AIR), for a number of reasons, in particular, its ability to be configured to run multiple ports, each using different languages, its scalability and its very attractive pricing model with no 'per user' fees. They also wanted to take advantage of its powerful reporting facilities and student management functionality.
Speed was an issue for WIPO and Traineasy was able to install and configure three portals running English, Spanish and French, within four days and with minimum hassle. Traineasy converted WIPO's custom-built course content to run within IntraLearn to make it appear almost identical to its original format. The LMS was also easily customized to provide a facility for the allocation of multiple tutors to different courses, to monitor and track student progress, interact via the system's community features and manage student assessments and scores.
Traineasy is helping WIPO in launching further language portals including English, French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Portuguese, and Chinese.
